Chapter 304: A Gentle Swing
Chapter 304: A Gentle Swing
As he carefully controlling the breeze so he would not wake up the sleeping children, Cari made the swing sway softly like a cradle.
"Cari keeps getting better and better at magic."
"Is Cari amazing?"
"You are amazing. I want to brag about you to everyone."
When Qiong Xing hugged him tightly and told him he was proud of him, Cari smiled happily once again.
Just as Fenrisúlfr had once said, Cari possessed fewer magical attributes than others, but in exchange he seemed able to control them with remarkable precision.
That ability came entirely from Cari’s own hard work and constant practice, and Qiong Xing felt proud that he worked so diligently.
"Lian was bragging before too, saying, ’Big Brother Cari is amazing!’ to Katarina and the others."
"That is great. Good for you."
Fenrisúlfr looked just as happy as though he himself had been praised.
Perhaps Qiong Xing had been the one to inspire Cari in the beginning, but the one who put in the effort and produced results was Cari himself.
That was exactly why Qiong Xing praised him so much.
"Let us go to the sea again sometime soon. You still have to teach me the promised way to catch shellfish. It would be nice if we could catch crabs and shrimp too."
They still needed more ingredients if they wanted to make chirashi sushi.
"Does Qiong Xing want to eat them? I can go catch some for you."
Qiong Xing appreciated the thought, but since Cari had promised to teach him, there would be no point if someone else caught everything for them.
"I appreciate it, but let us all go catch them together. By the way, are all of you alright with raw fish?"
Since coming here, seafood had appeared in their meals from time to time, but Qiong Xing had never seen anyone eat it raw.
"Raw...? Wouldn’t that upset your stomach?"
"I have never tried it either."
As expected, everyone seemed to think eating raw fish was dangerous.
That only made Qiong Xing more determined to let them taste it and discover how delicious it truly was.
After chatting together for a while longer, watching the children gradually made him sleepy as well, so he ended up taking a nap with his head resting on Iseul’s lap.
"Umm... does it hurt?"
"I am fine. Could you wake me up in about an hour? Cari, come here too... hm? Wait, where is Fenrir?"
Fenrisúlfr who had by now become an essential part of Qiong Xing’s naps was nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps it sounded rude considering he was speaking about a Fenrir, but that fluffy fur and warm body heat had become addictively comfortable.
"Now that you mention it, I have not seen him since this morning. Maybe he went somewhere?"
"I wonder... Usually he tells me whenever he is going somewhere..."
Partly because Qiong Xing was the only one Fenrisúlfr could properly communicate with, whenever he wanted to go somewhere he always made sure to tell Qiong Xing beforehand.
That was because Fenrisúlfr knew Qiong Xing worried every time he disappeared.
Recently, he had always remembered to tell him.
Without any explanation this time, Qiong Xing could not help feeling uneasy, but Elias and the others did not seem concerned at all and simply told him everything was fine.
"Come on, that is a Fenrir we are talking about. Back when he was starving before, maybe it would have been one thing, but lately he has been full of energy after eating good food every day and getting your magic too, Qiong Xing."
Though Fenrisúlfr had recently been complaining that the food was so delicious he was starting to gain weight.
Still, he had never once tried to restrain himself from eating, so in a sense it was entirely his own fault.
Qiong Xing was still a little worried, but there was nothing to do except wait, so he hugged Cari and drifted off to sleep.
...
The weather was beautiful again today, but...
"Umm... I want to go outside though."
"No! No no no! What if you collapse again!?"
Was that not a bit exaggerated after only fainting once?
And even then, it had merely been a brief dizzy spell.
He had not lost consciousness or collapsed onto the ground.
"I am already fine. Besides, I am sure this child wants fresh air too."
Qiong Xing lightly patted the pouch hanging from his neck like an apron.
Inside it rested the dragon egg that had only recently been laid, Iseul’s child.
Now that the egg was finally here, Iseul seemed even more worried than before.
Every single day he followed Qiong Xing around, constantly telling him not to move and to stay still.
"W well... maybe that is true, but..."
"You are weak."
Beside them, Elias watched the exchange with an exasperated look.
"You are way too weak. How are you losing arguments that easily?"
"Buuut... I do not want Qiong Xing to hate me."
"Quit saying stuff like ’buuut.’ You are a grown man."
Since Elias and Iseul had started bickering nicely with each other, Qiong Xing quietly slipped out of the room, deciding this was his chance.
As he heading out into the garden, he sat down on the swing while watching the children happily running around nearby.
"I never expected even Nura to become this overprotective."
Iseul had hesitated so much before, but now that the egg had actually been laid, he apparently could not help becoming anxious after all.
It was better than him being indifferent, but having even his movements restricted was exhausting for Qiong Xing.
"Though I suppose it really is better for me to rest quietly."
Even though he kept insisting to Iseul and the others that he was fine, the truth was that his body had been feeling somewhat heavy and sluggish lately.
Still, Qiong Xing had a good idea what the reason was, so he chose not to say anything.
"Eat lots and grow big, alright?"
