System Of The Undead

Chapter 191: Arc Conclusion Part 6

Chapter 191: Arc Conclusion Part 6

Everything calmed down and the time flew by rather fast considering that things had been settled in their various places.

Jason was nearing the community, they could see it from afar and this journey felt like it took a year in all honesty.

They were all exhausted but Shantel didn’t know that such a place still existed.

The walls were big and sturdy, strong enough to resist any outside force that would attempt to push against them.

"I cannot believe we made it back..." Glenn muttered, he didn’t have to experience the horror of the evolved zombies due to his injuries but there was no telling if he could have even survived it so this could very well be a blessing in disguise.

Shantel was speechless and Glenn remembered her existence soon after.

He wanted to see how Jason intended to bring her within the walls in the first place.

There was no way that Mariam would allow him to bring just anybody within the walls.

They reached a certain distance and the car came to a halt thanks to Glenn’s advice.

Jason would have driven right through as he wasn’t aware of the existence of a password but Glenn knew better.

Glenn made the gesture right out of the window which Jason mimicked, the gate was opened upon confirming that they were one of theirs.

Franklin already told them that they should be returning so they were expecting them.

The car made it into the community and they were surrounded in no time.

Jason didn’t know if they were happy to see them or if Franklin had told them something to put them on guard.

"Is it okay to step out?" Jason asked Glenn and Glenn responded by exiting the car himself.

They were welcomed with open arms and the reception they got was a lot more lively than Franklin.

Glenn was liked by everyone, he was an individual that one simply couldn’t hate and Jason could see why.

Jason stepped out of the car and the first person he saw was Allison. Allison’s heart was pounding because deep down, she thought she would never see him again.

Allison missed him and she just stared, not knowing what to do with the emotions building in her.

"Are you glitching?" Jason teased with a warm smile and this broke the tension as Allison ran and just threw herself at him.

She wrapped her legs and arms around him with Jason supporting her weight by placing it beneath her bum.

"How funny would it have been if I didn’t catch you?" Jason asked her.

"Shut up dummy, don’t ruin this," Allison responded.

She missed him but Jason didn’t peg her for this kind of person to openly show emotion.

Allison was a Specter and this felt out of character but without the burden of authority.

She could be her authentic self without worrying about anything else, something that Jason was just realizing.

"I missed you too," Jason responded as he slowly dropped her back to the ground.

Clementine watched them exchange pleasantries and didn’t think much of it, she had stayed with Jason long enough to understand the kind of influence he had on the ladies and even men.

She watched Shantel observe them, confused as to what the nature of their relationship was.

"Don’t worry, he doesn’t be

Shantel came out and no one recognized her even though she looked like the perfect sex toy, they were on guard because she was a new face.

"Who is she?" Allison questioned Jason.

"Jealous?" Jason teased as Shantel made her way to his side.

"Why are you the one to welcome us?" Glenn interrupted Allison, he was looking around for the wall commander but he didn’t see him.

"There is a lot I need to catch you all up on but I think you should go see Mariam first," Allison responded to Glenn.

Glenn didn’t press further and left them to go see Mariam just as she suggested.

"Hi, I’m Shantel..." Shantel responded; she wasn’t comfortable with how everyone was looking at her but she knew she had to suck it up.

"Where is Rachel?" Jason asked, there was no way she wouldn’t be here to welcome him if she knew he was coming.

He didn’t even care about Shantel or anything else going on in this conversation.

Seeing Rachel right now was his priority and that was the only person he wanted to see right now.

"Jason..." Allison called his name weakly.

"There is something I need to tell you..." Allison said because a lot had happened in their absence and Allison knew she had to catch Jason and Clementine up to speed.

However, due to procedure, Shantel was taken away to be questioned by security effectively removing her from the conversation

Rachel stayed with her sister, she needed to sleep but she sacrificed it because what if something happened to Lillian?

Lillian was fast asleep and the door soon opened to reveal Mathias, Mathias had come to check up on them because the state he left Rachel in wasn’t the best.

"How is she?" Mathias asked her and Rachel’s body relaxed the moment she saw it was him.

She didn’t want to admit it but she was beginning to get comfortable with Mathias.

"She woke up but went back to sleep shortly after," Rachel responded.

"She is a strong girl, she will be fine," Mathias reassured Rachel.

Rachel had no doubts that her younger sister would be fine, she just didn’t know the effect he would have on her.

Lillian was just becoming herself again and somehow, the world found a way to remind her that it isn’t a safe place.

Mathias knew this was a delicate situation and knew that he could easily just leave her with her pain but he couldn’t do that.

Mathias sat beside Rachel on the rather large chair but he didn’t say a word and allowed Rachel to feel every emotion she was going through.

Mathias placed his comforting hand on her back and began to slowly stroke it and this allowed Rachel to finally let out the pent-up stress that was building in her.

"I promise you, everything will be alright..." Mathias said once again and for some reason, Rachel believed him.

She was in a vulnerable state right now and while Mathias wasn’t taking advantage of her, it could be said that this wasn’t the typical doctor-patient relationship.

The fact that Rachel didn’t recoil from his touch showed that she was comfortable enough to let him touch her.

That or whatever was going on right now was so overwhelming that she didn’t even have time to process this.

Whatever it was, Mathias was providing her the comfort she so desperately needed.

"Thank you, Mathias..." Rachel said, resting her head on his shoulder as she closed her eyes to take it all in.

"You’re welcome, Rachel..." Mathias said, his voice calming and Rachel realized that she might be able to get some sleep at this rate.

If she fell asleep, Mathias would be here to look after her sister.

No, what was she thinking? Mathias was a stranger so why was this even a thought?

Once again the door opened but Rachel’s tired eyes didn’t open as she was about to enter Lala Land.

"Who are you?" Mathias asked the person standing at the door but all that followed was hurried footsteps, like someone was running towards them.

"I will ask again, who are you?" Mathias questioned once again but his tone wasn’t aggressive.

"How did this happen?" The voice questioned.

"That voice..." Rachel thought to herself the moment she heard it.

Her eyes opening and heart breathing chaotically in her chest, she quickly distanced herself from Mathias like she was caught in some sort of sinful act.

Mathias was surprised by her reaction to this man’s presence.

"Jason?" Rachel asked and Jason looked back at her with a concerned look.

Rachel realized how things must have looked from his perspective considering how reserved she was with physical touch but she wasn’t sure if this was real or if she was dreaming.

"In the flesh... I heard what happened and came right away," Jason said and without speaking further, Rachel ran into his arms.

She hugged him so tightly that even he had trouble breathing but he didn’t let her know this as he understood how much Rachel needed this.

The emotions doubled, crying like a newborn child with Jason stroking her beautiful blonde hair while she soaked his shirt in her tears.

"I’m sorry I wasn’t here, this wouldn’t have happened if I stayed back with you both but I promise you, I will find the man that did this," Jason said, pulling her back and looking right into her eyes.

"Even if it is the last thing I do," Jason said before hugging her once again.

However, his eyes soon met Mathis’ own and Mathias instinctively knew he had wandered into a territory that might have already been claimed by this man.

And there was one nonverbal message he got from looking into Jason’s cold eyes.

"Do not ever touch her again,"
