Chapter 268: Where Are You Taking Me!?
Chapter 268: Where Are You Taking Me!?
Jason was backed against the wall and didn’t know what to do but he couldn’t lose his cool.
He knew he had to be an anchor for Rachel and if the zombies had her then Lillian was as good as dead.
"Who was with her?" Jason questioned upon noticing an extra set of clothing that belonged to neither woman. He would have assumed that Rachel had another man over but the size was far too small to be that of an adult.
"The boy...! He was with her," Rachel barked and Jason realized that the kid he had saved was staying with them for some reason even though he wasn’t aware, meaning she kept it away from him.
However, he knew that he hadn’t had the time to have a proper conversation with Rachel so he couldn’t even blame her for omitting this information.
"That is good, he probably took her to safety," Jason reassured her with the calmest voice he could muster but he couldn’t vouch for the boy.
However, he knew that the boy had a paralytic effect on zombies but Jason didn’t know if that applied only to the zombies he bit or if it was his blood in general.
This was unknown and unfortunately, he didn’t have the time to verify this.
However, this was the most logical situation right now but Jason knew he had to go out and search for her.
"Carl, stay with her..." Jason commanded him.
"But I can’t just stay here when my sister is missing!" Rachel exclaimed but all Jason did was smile, she could be part of the man she fell in love with within that smile.
"I promise you, I will bring Lillian back but she would kick my ass if I let something happen to you," Jason said and Rachel felt her resistance melt away.
She didn’t know why he had this effect on her but she trusted him wholeheartedly.
She chuckled at how Lillian would react if something did happen to her, Jason wouldn’t hear the end of it. Humour never failed to de-escalate a tense situation and this wouldn’t be an exception.
"Alright..." Rachel succumbed and Jason knew that he was about to face something that could potentially kill him.
He stepped out and realized that there were growling sounds around, Jason equipped his sword as he tried to find out where Lillian was.
"Chronos, pick up on her signature," Jason instructed his system.
[[Tracking in progress...!]]
[[Tracking complete!]]
Chronos informed Jason and Jason could see a trail leading to where Lillian was supposedly.
Jason didn’t waste any time and dashed in that direction at full speed.
He had his sword out, ready to kill anything that threatened her, be it living or dead.
Jason wandered into an infested area within the community, the fact that the others were unaware that the zombies were already inside made retaining control of the situation impossible.
Jason came to a halt, the zombies weren’t evolved and were simply mindless ghouls, the lowest form.
Jason could dispose of them easily but this told him that they were turned within the community.
They didn’t slip in from outside and if it was an evolved zombie responsible, that would explain how it was able to sneak past everyone as they could pass as humans.
Jason couldn’t see Lillian, she should be here and there was no way that zombies of this calibre could do her in, she was far too stubborn to die this way.
Then he heard a sound. Jason chose to use a sword because he knew that a gun would attract too much attention and alert the others that the zombies were inside.
The chaos would make it impossible for Lillian to be found so he had to keep it under wraps.
Jason moved in the direction of the sound and saw a piece of cloth that belonged to Lillian.
There were signs of a struggle and that told Jason that she was targeted.
"Chronos, are you sure she is here?" Jason had to confirm but apparently, it was this piece of cloth that they were chasing.
For some reason, they could no longer track her signature and this should only be possible if she rubbed the guts of zombies on her.
"Fucking hell Lillian, where are you!?" Jason cussed under his breath.
-
"Where are we going?" Lillian questioned the boy, who was leading her by the hand.
She was covered from head to toe in zombie guts, both as they masked their scent and appearance.
The house had been attacked earlier but they weren’t sure if it was zombies or humans.
There was something strange about them as they had tried to open the door first before breaking the windows like they were cautious of injuries and the last time she checked, zombies didn’t care about being injured so there was a high chance that these people weren’t zombies.
The boy wasn’t much of a talker and he had managed to lead Rachel somewhere safe, he was avoiding zombies as he could sense them.
However, this ultimately led them outside the walls as he realized that the walls weren’t safer.
They kept walking and walking, Lillian wasn’t comfortable with this and yanked her hand away, breaking his hold.
The boy was confused, he was only trying to help her so why was she responding in a hostile manner? He gestured for her to give him her hand but all Lillian did in that moment was back away from him.
"What is wrong with you?" Lillian asked as the boy slowly lowered his hand and a sad expression crept up on his face.
He was only trying to help and it had been a while since he had seen someone this young but Lillian felt like he was trying to take away.
"I’m going back!" Lillian barked at the boy but before she could take a step, they were surrounded by four evolved zombies.
The thing about these evolved zombies, everything they perceived was relayed to the original as they all shared the same psych.
