Chapter 354 - 344: Investigating the Evidence
The flowers in Wang Miaomiao’s yard were not of any renowned kind. She had long wanted to uproot them and plant some small onions and vegetables, but she had never made up her mind to take action.
Today, while talking with the kids, Jiang Yan came up in the conversation, and soon they were discussing self-reliance.
The kids were action-oriented. Hearing that their father might lose his job, they immediately got to work.
Sure enough, when Jiang Yan returned, he saw this scene unfold before him.
Early the next morning, Jiang Yan woke up on time from his slumber, looked at his watch, it was five o’clock.
Usually, he was already up at this hour, doing some exercise first, then waking up the children and Wang Miaomiao to join him.
Today, however, he didn’t want to get up. The warmth in his arms was so cozy that he couldn’t help but want to indulge in it.
Wang Miaomiao was awakened by the heat, feeling in a daze as if her body was in a furnace. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying on top of him, tightly locked in his embrace.
"What are you doing? You’re burning me up, let me go," Wang Miaomiao said as her breath hit his neck.
Jiang Yan sighed softly, his large hand gently stroking her back, originally intending to help her relax. Unfortunately, the situation was clearly inappropriate, and the effect was different.
Wang Miaomiao felt uncomfortable all over, her breath becoming rapid. Since he was the one who started it... well then, if she couldn’t hold back, she wouldn’t be polite...
She abruptly propped herself up, engaging in a nose-to-nose, eye-to-eye stare with him.
Their gazes locked, their breaths mingled.
A hint of amazement flashed in Wang Miaomiao’s eyes. This man looked more appealing the more she looked at him, and as he aged, he became even more charming. To remain unmoved in the face of such beauty would make her a fool.
When they stepped out of the room, more than an hour had passed.
The two hurried to wake the children, making them rush around, and even the time for morning exercise was cut short by half.
Just as they sat down for breakfast, the investigation team arrived.
A group of three walked in, feeling rather embarrassed to find the family still at breakfast.
"Please, continue eating..."
Wang Miaomiao thought: Of course, we’ll continue eating. Arriving early in the morning to spoil our mood is thoughtless.
"Aunt Li, please take them to the living room, offer them some tea, and entertain them a bit."
"Sure thing." Aunt Li led them away, and Wang Miaomiao smiled at the children, saying, "We have guests at home, so Mom won’t take you to school today. Dad will."
The kids, being understanding, all nodded in agreement, like little angels.
Wang Miaomiao ensured she was well-fed and quenched before meeting the guests. She wouldn’t put herself out for their arrival.
Knowing someone would come today, she had taken the morning off from school and was prepared to wait at home.
Having someone find you at school wouldn’t be good. Even though Jiang Yan was innocent, there would always be people who preferred to gossip and speculate maliciously.
They couldn’t stand to see others doing better than themselves, always eager to bring others down while raising themselves up, capable of making waves out of nothing.
When Wang Miaomiao entered the living room, those inside were already a bit impatient, and their faces showed some emotion.
"Sorry to keep you waiting." Wang Miaomiao said with a smiling face, employing pleasantries without regard for their moods. Let’s see what they’ll do...
The group was, after all, concerned with appearances, and quickly composed themselves to begin talking.
Regarding Jiang Yan’s work matters, Wang Miaomiao dismissed them, saying he never discussed work at home.
As for his supposed unfilial attitude towards Zheng Zhen, Wang Miaomiao produced a pile of bills as evidence.
Knowing Zheng Zhen’s nature, Wang Miaomiao had long been prepared.
When parents divorce, children must fulfill their duty of support, even though Zheng Zhen didn’t seem to lack money.
Wang Miaomiao, foresightful, had earlier obtained Zheng Zhen’s bank account details, and she would transfer an amount each quarter as her living expenses. The remittance slips formed a stack.
She kept receipts for clothes sent throughout the year, and all supplements from major stores, with proof of purchase kept on hand.
The three investigators looked at the evidence, taken aback. Clearly, she was prepared...
But all this was solid evidence, far more reliable than mere words.
With this evidence in hand and some basic questions answered, there was little else to ask.
The three investigators left well satisfied, though this was not what some wanted to see. The issue was far from over.
Jiang Yan, however, remained calm, spending time with Mr. Jiang, tilling soil, planting vegetables, picking up and dropping off the kids, with his days organized and fulfilling.
After all, he was in no hurry...
The Zheng Family, however, was growing frantic. The investigation into Zheng Long had quickly yielded results, with numerous charges leading to a potential 25-year prison sentence and a hefty compensation to the victims’ families. Meanwhile, other Zheng businesses were also affected.
Zheng Jun was anxiously pleading to no avail. They say when you’re down, others strike; those who once seemed close were the quickest and most ruthless to act against him.
The Ma Family, particularly, as in-laws, were ruthless, leaving Zheng Jun with no chance to react.
This displeased Zheng Jun, as he and the Ma Family had considerable business partnerships. Mei Family couldn’t be untouched as Zheng was indicted, could they?
Thus, if you act unjustly, don’t blame me for being unrighteous. Zheng Jun retaliated by reporting the Ma Family. And so, it became a case of dog eats dog...
Mr. Zheng knew Zheng Zhen had indeed gone to stir trouble at Jiang Yan’s place, causing Jiang Yan’s suspension, and was so angry he wished he could get out of bed to hit her. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get up.
"You... you fool..." Mr. Zheng trembled with rage, his cloudy eyes glaring at Zheng Zhen with hostility.
Zheng Zhen sat there calmly watching him, saying, "Yes, I’m foolish, foolish beyond hope."
Father and daughter stared at each other for a long time, everything unspoken.
A trace of resentment flashed in Zheng Zhen’s eyes.
"Dad, you should go back. Falling leaves return to their roots; this isn’t your root. If you really got in trouble here, hehe... don’t expect me to handle your affairs..." Zheng Zhen had lost her patience. After all, she planned to live in this house for a long time...
"You... ungrateful girl... if you don’t do it, will you throw me out?" Mr. Zheng’s eyes widened in arrogance and disdain, as if sure he could control Zheng Zhen.
Zheng Zhen’s face remained indifferent, her eyes flashing with coldness, her lips curling slightly, "Maybe I can’t just discard you, but I can send you to the crematorium. Once there, I’m not obligated to bring you back. Let’s see if my brother will be willing to take you back..."
Mr. Zheng’s face turned ashen, nearly choking in his fury.
