Chapter 373 - 343: Extra Story 2
Wang Miaomiao and Jiang Yan resigned together in the year 2000. She was just in her early forties, and Jiang Yan was only in his early fifties. Both were below retirement age, but they resolutely left their jobs, causing quite a stir among the leadership.
Repeated attempts were made to persuade them, working on their thoughts multiple times, but ultimately, there was no choice but to let them go.
However, the higher-ups still appealed to their emotions and reasoned with them, getting them to agree to join a special talent organization established by the country so that if the nation ever needed their assistance, they would be committed to contributing their efforts for the country and the people.
They just wanted time to travel, not completely isolate themselves from the world. Besides, they had some connections that couldn’t be severed, especially since they had descendants to think of...
Ten leisure-filled and joyful years passed in an instant.
One day, Wang Miaomiao suddenly realized that her children were all in their thirties, yet none had married, or even brought anyone home.
A sudden sense of panic!
She considered herself a rather open-minded mother and didn’t like interfering with her children’s decisions.
But being over thirty, and not one of the four children having thoughts of marriage was a bit too much. If she didn’t inquire, it would be neglectful as a mother.
Discussing this topic with Jiang Yan, he too was taken aback, having married and started a family himself nearly at thirty. He hadn’t urged the children before, but with his wife’s reminder, he indeed felt it was time for the children to consider their lifelong commitments.
Finally, a few phone calls were made, and two days later, on Sunday, the children came home one by one.
Over the past few years, due to work reasons, the children had gone their separate ways and wouldn’t gather altogether unless it was a special holiday.
Jiang Zihan was thriving in the military, now a commander. Besides training, he had tasks, making the military almost like his home.
Jiang Zihui worked in the government office, diligently over the years, often going to other provinces and cities for internships and learning. Upon returning, he had multiple promotions, and now he’s the district mayor of District C in Beijing. He was in the rising phase of his career, aiming higher with more efforts, having the ambition to succeed.
Jiang Ziyue was beyond description, as the popular film emperor, with movie deals lined up for five years and often being away for several months at a time.
As the only girl in the family, Jiang Zixuan, was the smartest with the greatest achievements. After graduating with a doctorate, she worked at the national research center, securing over a dozen patents and contributing vastly to research projects.
Due to project commitments, not coming home for weeks was commonplace.
But no matter how busy, when parents personally called, one by one they returned home dutifully.
"Mom, Dad, I’m back." The first to arrive home was Jiang Ziyue.
"Oh, our big star is back." Wang Miaomiao put down her fruit fork and stood up to welcome her good son.
"Mom..." Jiang Ziyue placed several bags on the coffee table and warmly embraced Wang Miaomiao.
Causing Jiang Yan to glare from the side, speaking sternly, "Hmph, pay attention to your image. You’re a grown-up now."
Even reprimanded by his father, Jiang Ziyue wasn’t upset, releasing Wang Miaomiao with a cheerful grin.
Wang Miaomiao gave Jiang Yan a reproachful look, thinking that this old fellow, still held jealousy toward their son.
"Mom, I brought some local specialties from Jiangnan for you. See if you like them?" Over the years, as Jiang Ziyue traveled with film crews, he would always seek out local delicacies, bringing back what he could, and photographing cooking processes for Wang Miaomiao when he couldn’t bring them back.
"I like them, all of them. These are a thoughtful gift from my son, hehe..." Wang Miaomiao seriously viewed the items her son brought back. Though not particularly valuable, they were a gesture of her son’s care, which she liked very much and was quite touched...
Ten fingers are of various lengths; as parents, they strive for fairness with every child, but absolute fairness simply doesn’t exist in this world.
Unknowingly, Wang Miaomiao favored this third son, always thinking a bit more for him.
"Ziyue, what have you been busy with lately?" Wang Miaomiao decided to first inquire about her son’s situation.
"Still filming that new period drama, it’ll wrap up in a month. Once this is done, I don’t plan to take more roles this year, so I can return early to accompany you and dad." Jiang Ziyue spoke with a smile. As a sought-after film emperor now, scripts sent his way were filtered repeatedly by his assistant, and he still compared and selected carefully before accepting.
At his level, he wouldn’t accept poor-quality scripts. Additionally, he would only do two or three films a year, no more.
"Great, great. In fact, your dad and I plan to visit Sea City again before the year-end. You should accompany us then." Wang Miaomiao was delighted to hear this. The only child with a flexible schedule was Jiang Ziyue, who could spend more time with them.
Jiang Yan, hearing this, was not as pleased, casting a furtive glance at Jiang Ziyue, thinking this pesky kid was coming to be a third wheel, a tag-along!
Jiang Ziyue felt his father’s unfriendly gaze and provocatively smiled at him; hmph hmph... His dad was a small-minded person, clinging to his mom since childhood. Back then, being naïve, he was fooled, causing him to be more independent early on and missing out on much maternal love...
Now understanding, he enjoyed teasing his father, seeing his irritation and jealousy, unable to do anything about it which made him happy.
Jiang Yan’s eyes narrowed slightly, the corner of his mouth curled, half smiling. Secretly thinking: Such a vexing kid, grew in stature but not in brain, born to be a nuisance. If you weren’t capable of making your mom laugh, I wouldn’t tolerate your antics here, hmph hmph...
Wang Miaomiao didn’t pick up on the silent exchange between the two, her mind was focused on finding her son a girlfriend, "What about the actresses in that film? Are they pretty?"
"Hmm... There’s Zhang Han, Chen Jiaojiao, and a newcomer Liu Zhiwen. As for looks... they’re just average, not as charming as mom, nor as vibrant and capable as sister."
In Jiang Ziyue’s eyes, indeed no woman could compare to his mom.
Seeing his candidness, Wang Miaomiao knew he hadn’t realized it yet. She frowned slightly and asked, "You’re thirty already. Is there any girl you like? Mom isn’t like a wicked mother-in-law from high-ranking families, not concerned about her background, as long as you like her... So, do you have one? Bring her over, and I’ll take a look?"
"Huh?" Jiang Ziyue’s eyes widened in disbelief, evidently quite shocked.
